As many of you have pointed out both in the GroupMe chat and to me privately, a pending trade between Phoenix and Indiana involving androidseventeen (better known as Cody) was egregiously ridiculed last night by Mexi. See below:
Cody then later backed out of this trade. First thing's first: While not illegal, backing out of a gentlemen's agreement reflects poorly on you and only you. Trades do not become official until both GM's agree on site and the trade has been labeled as 'PROCESSED' by me, but what do we have to go off of in this league if not for our honor?
These are the facts of this situation, but not all the facts. What many of you do not know is that Cody actually approached Mexi before Mexi blew up the trade in the group chat asking whether or not it was okay to back out of the deal. Mexi then took to the group chat to put the trade on blast in order to make Cody look less guilty for backing out of the deal. None of what I've posted makes what either GM did okay, but hopefully it provides clarity as to why the events of last night transpired.
We cannot allow any kind of precedent to creep in that makes it okay to A) back out of a deal or B) shine a light on a pending deal in the group chat with the intentions of getting the deal to fall through. You all know that there are rules in place to keep people from talking about deals until they are agreed upon and processed, and those rules will now be strictly adhered to thanks to the events of the last 24 hours. There will be no more warnings, and I will do my best to hold myself accountable as well.
Given everything that's happened, the following fines have been handed out:
Celtics - $10
Pacers - $5
I'm sorry to have this black mark on the eve of our sixth season, but hopefully we can move on and continue going strong as a league. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me.
