When TSFBL II was officially announced last week, I mentioned that there would be plenty of new additions and changes from leagues prior. While we're still waiting for GM's to file in, I figured I'd pull back the curtain and give you all a first look at some of what's coming in the new league.
1. New and Improved CBA
A lot of my motivation of running a new league came from my passion for the business side of the NBA. With that, I wanted to try and make a structure for the league that could mirror the NBA's CBA in a lot of ways. While it's impossible to completely recreate the real life system, TSFBL II will come closer than ever to giving you the realism of being an NBA GM. With that, the hard cap is gone (sort of), the cap floor is gone (sort of), and going over the luxury tax will be an even riskier option for GM's to weigh.
2. Expanded Draft Pick Flexibility
With the updated CBA, I also wanted to allow GM's the same flexibility that exists in real life of being able to trade draft picks up to seven drafts into the future. I've never done this before and it will be a lot of responsibility for GM's to manage, but I'm exciting to see who is willing to mortgage their futures to try and win. With that, I will also be enforcing the Stepien Rule as it is enforced in real life, which forces GM's to have at least one first round pick every other season (this was in all past leagues too, just interpreted slightly differently).
3. External Free Agency
Also a product of the new CBA, we're going to be taking free agency outside of FBB for the first time in TSFBL history. Many of you will remember that I made a spreadsheet to handle free agency many years ago, and now it's been completely revamped for TSFBL II. With external free agency, you'll now be able to offer multi-year MLE's, decreasing contracts, etc. While I know the debate of internal versus external free agency has people on both sides of the fence, I'm sure nobody will be upset about the added contract dynamics.
4. Draft Class Variance
Rookie scouting will be more important in this league than any of mine before. While I'm still going to make prospects like I always did, I'll be randomizing prospect potentials when I import them into the game using a weighted algorithm. Draft picks will matter now more than ever, and finding diamonds in the rough will be a big determining factor in building championship teams, just as it is in real life.
More to come.
