Longley eyeing playoff return? When Luc Longley tore his ACL in the second month of the season, many assumed his 1996 season was over. However, sources close to the Detroit Pistons have reported that Longley is ahead of schedule in his rehab, and hinted that we may not have seen the last of him this season. While the timeline is still uncertain, a deep playoff run from the Pistons, who are currently tied for first in the Eastern Conference standings, would likely give Longley enough time to return to the lineup and bolster an already-deep Pistons' frontcourt. Longley, who was acquired from the Los Angeles Clippers in the off-season for a first round pick, was averaging 12.0 points and 7.9 rebounds per game before going down with the knee injury. Already having won a championship and Playoff MVP with the Denver Nuggets in 1991, the 28-year-old center figured to be a piece to aid the Pistons' incredible turnaround from lottery team to true contender in just one season. Time will tell if they can make a run in the playoffs long enough to allow Longley to return.
