Since acquiring Kenny via trade just prior to the deadline, it was no secret we wanted to bring him here for the long term in an attempt to win championships. We felt like a true all league talent at the PG position would elevate this team to the apex of the league. In tandem with Shaquille O’Neal, we feel like we can compete with anybody so long as Kenny is around.
With all that said, we need to find a way to add quality role players around these two all star caliber players. We would still like to make a top dollar offer to Kenny to show him our belief in him is in good faith. We would like to formally present him with this offer.
3 years, $10,350,000 (120% of expiring salary) with a decreasing annual salary of 5% and a player opt out
We feel like this will give us the flexibility we need to give Kenny and Shaq the talent they need to succeed at the highest level in assuring the cap space necessary to retain Rashard Lewis, as well as adding core role players to the team, is available in the backend of his deal. This will also give Kenny the opportunity to exit into free agency if he feels he can find a better home after his age 31 season.

FBB Agent: As this is the most you could've offered (and only 300K short of what his max would be), Kenny appreciates your willingness to open the checkbook to keep him in Milwaukee. With that said, signing a decreasing contract at this point makes little to no sense for my client. The expiration of his current deal very well could represent his last chance of getting a big payday in his career as he approaches the wrong side of 30. By not getting the maximum increase he could (8%), he'd be leaving over $4,000,000 on the table over the duration of this contract. Verdict: OFFER DECLINEDFeel free to counter below.

Of course we would like to offer Kenny a fair deal, and in no way meant to slight our appreciation for him in offering a decreasing scale in wages. We are making an attempt to retain reasonable cap space moving forward, but would hate to lose trust in Kenny as our franchise point guard and will make a more aggressive offer to retain him. We would like to offer Kenny a 4 year, $10,350,000 contract with an annual salary increase of 5% and a team opt out for the 4th year. Please let us know if this is a more agreeable offer for your client.

Please let us know if this is a more agreeable offer for your client. This is much closer. Our biggest hold up right now is the team option -- Kenny would like to be in control of his own destiny and not have the uncertainty of non-guaranteed money out there. He is already sacrificing in this deal by taking less than a possible max, a move that would cost him $1,290,000 over four years (not the biggest deal, but worth noting). We would propose one of the following two solutions: either keep his raises at 5% and give him a player option for the final year, or we bump the raises to 8% and make it a four-year, fully-guaranteed deal for both parties. Let us know what you think. Verdict: OFFER DECLINEDFeel free to counter below.
