Derek has been a team player for the Minnesota franchise, and we'd like to reward him with a contract extension. Whether it was carrying the team during the tanking days, or the split action of starting or being the sixth man, Derek has been there for us in any role that best suits the team. We wanted to give Derek more of an opportunity by trading away Jalen Rose, and also feel Anderson deserves to be paid in a starters market.
As we look at the previous Free Agency market to set projections, we feel DA best correlates to the contract his cousin Shandon in Dallas received. Shandon received four year $4M per year contract as a Free Agent, with 3% raises. I also see veteran FA David Wesley sign for a 2 year deal at $6M, with a 1% increase.
We feel that a fair and reasonable offer to Derek is a $5M base salary with the full 8% raises available to him. With the maximum extension length being four years, we'd also like to offer that final year as a player option, in case Derek feels his market needs correction.
2000: $2,665,171 2001: $5,000,000 2002: $5,400,000 2003: $5,800,000 2004: $6,200,000
Total Extension Value: $22,400,000

Total Extension Value: $22,400,000 FBB Agent: Thank you for your contract offer. As you know, Derek's role with the team has diminished greatly from season to season since he arrived in Minnesota. And while the starting SG spot is open for him right now, he also knows he's one trade away from being demoted to the bench again. With that said, he would be more in favor of a three-year deal with the same opt out, and preferably for slightly more money. Verdict: OFFER DECLINEDFeel free to counter below.

A 2+1 extension is fine by us, and the most we’re willing to pay at this time right now would be $6M. If that’s not enough for Mr. Anderson, we’d be willing to wait until Restricted Free Agency to see his market — although it’s certainly possible he isn’t able to receive a 2+1 deal then when most teams will want to offer the 3+1 deal. We want Derek to be happy here and receive the contract he deserves.
