Scuffle in Hornets' locker room following playoff exitFollowing an embarrassing sweep at the hands of the Milwaukee Bucks in the second round of the 2000 TSFBL Playoffs, TMZ Sports has learned there was a major scuffle in the Hornets' locker room after Game 4. At the center of the altercation were their two star guards, Anfernee "Penny" Hardaway and Ray Allen. Rumors of a rift between the two have been brewing around Charlotte all season long, and finally boiled over after a series in which the Hornets' average margin of defeat in the four losses was 15 points. This backcourt duo has played together in Charlotte for five seasons now, and even led the franchise to its first championship in 1998. However, the organization has made it clear throughout that it is, and always has been, Hardaway's team, tasking Allen to figure out how to complement the former MVP as a second fiddle. This was never more evident than in the series against the Bucks, where Allen shot four less times per game than his counterpart despite the latter's major struggles in the series. Time will tell what the locker room fracas means for the future of the Hornets. While Allen might prefer to go to a team where he can star in the leading role as soon as this off-season, he is under contract for the next three seasons. Meanwhile, Hardaway is entering the final year of his contract, and the Hornets' front office will have the opportunity to pass the torch to Allen at its expiration. Whatever they decide to do, there will be plenty to monitor in Charlotte this summer.
