We would like to offer Mr. Francis a contract extension to remain with the Detroit Pistons. With a comparable player in terms of age and career numbers in Mike Bibby recently signing an offer sheet for $29,979,432 over 4 years, some might argue that Steve Francis would deserve something around the same range. However, we fully believe in Mr. Francis and what he brings to this franchise, as proven by the willingness to move on from one of the best players in the league. We would like to double down on that belief and commitment in the form of a 5 year maximum salary contract.
Hopefully we have also proven our commitment to doing everything to help surround Mr. Francis with the tools needed to bring a championship to the city of Detroit, as evident by the recent acquisition of Vince Carter. Our promise is to continue and make improvements to this roster and put this team in a position to compete year in and year out. To maintain the financial flexibility of both the team and player we would like to include a 0% increase from year to year with a player option at the end of the contract.
We look forward to continue seeing Steve Francis proudly represent the city of Detroit for the foreseeable future.

We're very interested in re-upping with the Pistons and continuing Francis' career in Detroit. A flat extension is not advantageous to any player when it comes to extension talks off of the end of this contract. Mathematically, if the exact same money is doled out over the contract, is there any reason why we couldn't give him the maximum 8% raises? It would also allow the team to have more flexibility at the beginning of the contract to add talent, and the raises would be occurring at the same time as potential cap increases. Terms:Year 1: $9,785,715 Year 2: $10,568,572 Year 3: $11,351,428 Year 4: $12,134,285 (player option) TOTAL: $43,840,000Unfortunately, since it's not a max, the fifth year is not allowed. Please let us know what you think. Verdict: OFFER COUNTEREDFeel free to accept, decline, or counter below.
