The Denver Nuggets are very excited about bringing in oru latest acquisition in the trade market, Eddie Jones, and would like to discuss a possible extension with him.
Our goal and focus is winning a championship, and we hope to come a mutually beneficial solution to Eddie's pending free agency. We look forward to bringing him stability, as well as to our organization, and thus we have come to the opening offer:
Starting salary: $8,000,000 Annual decrease: 6% Length: 3 years guaranteed + Team Option
We realize that we have been relatively more generous in the current offseason to other, perhaps lesser players than Eddie is. One can just compare the recent contract of Bruce Bowen and this offer, and simply come to this conclusion. However, since then we have made signings as well as extended the contract of Elton Brand, who was acquired after some of our offers. In hindsight we feel we overpaid Bowen, and we don't want to do that with Eddie, because we want to keep this core together, which also means a potential maximum extension for Michael Redd is in the plans for next year. Keeping our eyes on the luxury tax threshold, on the contracts on our payroll, and possible extensions in the future, we think we make a good offer, especially from contending standpoint.
We believe Eddie is a great veteran, who we could depend on for hopefully 4 seasons after this one, if he signs this deal. He'd be 35 at the end of it. We estimate the total deal to be around $22,5 million guaranteed for the first 3 years.
In terms of money to be made, we think Eddie could perhaps fetch this on the open market as well, but he would probably not be playing with two young maximum contract caliber players next to him.

FBB Agent: So let me get this straight, you trade for Eddie Jones, a six-time all-star and four-time All-League player, and your first order of business is asking him to take a massive pay cut below his market value? With a decreasing contract AND a team option as well? This offer is not even close to something Eddie would be willing to accept. At this point, barring a massive pivot from your organization, Eddie will be playing it out in free agency in the off-season. Verdict: OFFER DECLINEDFeel free to counter below.

The Nuggets would like to ask Eddie's agent a question and be open about their intentions.
How does the agent feel about Jamal Mashburn's contract that was signed this offseason?
We as the Nuggets feel Mashburn's contract, though he hasn't had the career Eddie has had, might reflect Eddie's market value to an extent.
Eddie will be two years older than Mashburn was during free agency. He signed for 34 million on day 3 of free agency, with a team option, just like we offered.
We have some buying remorse on the length of Robert Horry's contract, which hampers our room under the luxury tax threshold.
We have already explured trade options, but a trade with the Heat was illegal. This trade would have given us much more flexibility because the player we intended to bring in has a shorter contract than Horry.
Our payroll is estimated to be 40 million next year for 8 players under contract, before our draft picks are made.
Assuming we'd keep our first round pick, we are looking at around 42 million for 9 players.
If Eddie resigns, he'd be the 10 player on our roster. The luxury tax threshold will be 54,5 million.
That means we have about 12,5 million to spend on Eddie and 2 more players at least. This is all in case no trades are made to cut salary, which is obviously not guaranteed that we can.
Sadly the cap is not rising much the next year. But we are facing extensions of three important roster players that year. Two of them probably expecting and deserving of a pay raise.
This is not just a detail concerning this extension, because we wish to make Eddie's extension at least two years, so that we can offer an extension later again.
We really do want to keep him and improve the roster further. That being said, the higher Eddie's contract, the smaller the chance we be adding another MLE signing next year to the roster.
So with that in mind we made our initial offer.
We wouldn't be against offering a one year extension at his current salary though or a little higher even. But the years beyond is something that we can't commit to then just yet. Because of the rest of the payroll and the way the cap is projected to be.
We would counter a one year contract of 10 or 10,5 million if it didn't mean foregoing the possibility of extending him again. Because as the rule states, there has to be two years in between extensions.
Therefore it is a priority for us to come to deal of at least two years.
That being said, we look forward to an answer to our question concerning Eddie's market value and how the agent views it.
Thank you for bearing with me, I'm a rookie at this.
