We’re under the impression that you may be able to secure a more lucrative contract after the new league year begins, but we felt the need to reach out to express our desire to lock you up long term regardless.

You’ve been a phenomenal addition to the Magic and we hope to have you in the organization for many years to come.

With that said, we’d like to offer you a maximum salary extension of 4 years with a player option in the final year. If you’re inclined to wait until the offseason, we totally understand and will be open to resuming talks then.

Thank you for your generous offer. Pau has not had the opportunity to choose what team he plays for his entire career, and while he's enjoyed his tenure in Orlando so far, he's not ready to give up that right -- should he choose to decline his player option. Given that he's about to turn 29, this could be his last opportunity at a maximum contract, and it's important to pick the right team. We hope you understand, and look forward to further negotiations in the off-season.
