Hello Al and representatives.
The Pacers front office would like to congratulate you on an excellent season so far.
Due to the success of this season we would like to offer you an extension.
We are willing to offer you a $60,2M contract extension for the duration of 4 years, of which the fourth year would ideally be a team option, but we are willing to negotiate on that.
We feel this is a reasonable offer for the talents hat Al brings to the table.
And, more importantly, we feel this is a deal that would help our team in the long run.
We acknowledge that Al as a 20 point per game scorer may command more money in the open market (though we aren't necessarily positive of that) but, we feel that if he is to be part of a great team with a chance to win the championship year in year out for the duration of his next contract, that this number would fit.
If he is to sign this contract and his teammate Stephen Jackson also signs an extension, we could go into free agency with a good deal of cap space to sign an upgrade at point guard to address our biggest need, and build a real contender with Al, David Lee, Jeff Green and Stephen Jackson. At least, that is our conviction.
If Al is to leave this offer on the table, he may not expect to return to Indiana after this season, as a renouncing of his Bird rights would be a serious consideration for us, and we wouldn't look back with remorse on that, as we feel that a cheaper more defensive minded alternative at center could then become a serious option for us to fill with our cap space or by trade.
Offer 1:
year 1: $14,000,000
year 2: $14,700,000
year 3: $15.400,000
year 4 (team option): $16,100,000
(We would like to stress that we would take every dollar we can save on his next contract.
So the more Al wants to give up for a chance to win a ring with us the better.
Hence a few more options for Al to sign/consider:)
Offer 2:
year 1: $13,500,000
year 2: $13,500,000
year 3: $13.500,000
year 4 (player option): $13,500,000
Offer 3:
year 1: $12,500,000
year 2: $13,125,000
year 3: $13.750,000
year 4 (player option): $14,375,000
Offer 4:
year 1: $12,500,000
year 2: $12,500,000
year 3: $12,500,000
year 4: $12,500,000
