First of all, for the purposes of this league and this thread, waiving a player and releasing a player are one in the same. You cannot put a player on waivers and later retract him, like you could in baseball.
Rules for Waiving a Player:
- All releases must be posted in their own topic with the player's name in the title. If you are enacting the stretch provision, please include that in the thread title as well.
- Once a player is released, he is permanently and immediately gone from your team.
- It is not on the league to know that a roster move is contingent on another roster move. If you post to waive a player because you needed to open a roster spot for a trade, and that trade falls through, that does not mean you can undo waiving the player.
- If the released player clears waivers, you are responsible for the remainder of his salary. This includes a player option in the final year of the contract, if there is one, but not a team option.
Rules for Claiming a Player off Waivers:
- The player released officially hits waivers once I've posted that he's on waivers, and no sooner. All claims made before that post will be deleted without warning.
- Once the release has officially processed, the other 28 teams will have 24 hours to submit a claim for said player.
- Please designate if you are actually claiming a player when posting in a player thread, or simply expressing interest should he clear waivers (this will make more sense in later section).
- A successful waiver claim comes with a $1,000 fee, payable to the league office. Thus, if you have no money in your bank account, you cannot claim a player.
- You must have roster space to claim a player at the time you make the claim.
- When claiming a player, you are assuming full responsibility for that player's remaining salary. Thus, a team can only submit a waiver claim if one of the following is true:
- If your waiver claim is invalid for any reason, it will be deleted without warning.
- When multiple claims are made on the same player within the 24-hour period, the tie will be broken by the waiver order.
- You cannot retract a waiver claim.
- You cannot put in a waiver claim for a player that your team traded away earlier in the league year.
- If the player waived had more than 1 bird year and is successfully claimed, his bird years will automatically be reset to 1.
- If you successfully claim a player off waivers, he will automatically go to your injured reserve -- assuming your roster already has 12 or more players -- so as not to hold up a sim for needed depth chart changes.
Rules for Players Who Clear Waivers:
- If you have interest in a player on waivers but don't/can't make a waiver claim, you can post in the thread to express your interest and what contracta you'd be willing to give him should he clear waivers. If the interest is mutual, he will sign with you immediately upon clearing waivers. Like above, you must have the roster space to sign this player when expressing interest. Also like above, he will automatically go to your injured reserve if he does sign.
- If the player goes unclaimed, he then becomes an unrestricted free agent at the date and time posted in the thread and is subject to the free agency rules based on where we are in the league calendar.
- You do not need to wait for me to close the thread for the waiver period to be completed.
Notes:
a - if the player signs for an amount above the minimum, the original team may receive some money back in the form of a set-off at the end of the season. This set-off is equal to half of the difference between the new contract he signs and what he would've earned on a minimum contract.
Example: Suppose a player is waived with one guaranteed season remaining on his contract for $5 million. If this player signs a $2 million contract with another team, his original team gets to set off $2 million minus the amount he would've earned on a minimum contract (in this case, let's say $1,312,611), divided by two, or $343,694. The original team is still responsible for paying $4,656,306 of the original $5 million. The $343,694 is deducted from the team's waived salary at the end of the season.

- The team has a Disabled Player exception for at least the player's salary, and the player is on the last season of his contract.
- The team has a trade exception for at least the player's salary and the team is far enough below the 1st Apron that the trade exception wouldn't put them over it
- The player has a minimum salary contract for one or two seasons
