The Indiana Pacers!

After a promising start to the season, the Pacers fell back into the lottery for the second straight season. While their luck with the ping pong balls wasn't as kind as last year, this pick should net them a good young player to complement Kevin Durant.

The 12th pick in the 2006 Rookie Draft belongs to:



The Golden State Warriors, by way of the Chicago Bulls!

After a Conference Finals trip a season ago, surely the Bulls never expected this pick -- which they traded away in the Zach Randolph deal -- to land in the lottery. For a Warriors team sans its own pick this year, this is not a bad fallback.

The Seattle SuperSonics!

After jumping into the top four in consecutive lotteries, the SuperSonics will begin the 2006 Rookie Draft with the 11th overall pick. Having missed the playoffs in three straight seasons, the city of Seattle is beginning to grow sleepless due to the lack of recent success.

The Cleveland Cavaliers!

After a promising start to the season, an injury to star center Yao Ming sent the Cavaliers tumbling into the lottery. Thankfully, their pick was in tow, and they'll have a chance to add a top-ten rookie to an already talented roster.

The Washington Wizards!

The Wizards took a major step forward this season behind their young duo of Luol Deng and Tony Parker, and will be aiming to jump into the playoffs after adding one more piece to the nucleus. We're through five picks now, and everything has held to form so far.

The Portland Trail Blazers!

(35.5% chance of landing in this spot)

A disappointing season in Portland saw the Trail Blazers miss the playoffs for the first time since 2002, but the core of Iverson, Wells, and West is still in tact and they'll welcome in a talented young rookie at #8 overall. More importantly, this means the Sacramento Kings have jumped into the top four!

Speaking of the Kings, their dream of two picks in the top four is officially dead -- although I'm sure they are quite content with one. This means the Lakers' pick (owned by Boston) and the Spurs pick have both jumped into the top four! Like the Kings, the Celtics dream of a second pick jumping into the top four is also dead. With the Lakers' pick jump already confirmed, they'll celebrate just the same if they land in the #1 slot. One more pick before the top four; will the Hornets or Magic jump into the final slot?

After pivoting into a rebuild mid-season, the Magic have fallen short of a top pick. #5 will surely still add a talented player, but they'll be disappointed to have missed out on the big prize. This means the Hornets will join the Celtics (via Lakers), Spurs, and Kings in the top four -- stay tuned to find out the order!

The Boston Celtics, by way of the Los Angeles Lakers!

While the #1 overall pick was their goal, picks #4 and #6 will still net the Celtics two good young prospects that they desperately need. The Lakers also avoid disaster here, after dealing this pick away in a package for Tracy McGrady seasons ago.

The Sacramento Kings!

The Kings entered the lottery with the fourth and tied-for-seventh best odds, respectively, and leave with picks #3 and #7. All in all, a great haul for a team that needs talent on the roster in all areas. The Hornets and Spurs are the only two remaining, stay tuned to see who will get #1!

After a surprise run to the Conference Finals a season ago, expectations were sky high for the young Spurs. Despite a strong start to the season, they quickly plummeted all the way from first to worst in their division. Entering the lottery with the sixth-likeliest odds at #1 overall, this is an unequivocal win for a franchise that is going to need to start putting consecutive winning seasons together soon. The Charlotte Hornets!

A two-year rebuild has netted the Hornets the prize they were after: the #1 overall pick in a draft with only one generational prospect (as projected). In all likelihood, the hometown kid from Davidson will head just miles down the road, and the Hornets will be faced with the task of building around the best shooting prospect the league has seen to date.
